Therapeutic Cupping

Other Serivces

Therapeutic Cupping is also called myofascial decompression. A physical therapist places a cup, or series of cups, on or around the area of injury and then uses a pump to create the suction within the cup.  This results in a decompression of the superficial tissue from the underlying tissue. The negative pressure of decompression helps to create space and improves circulation in surrounding muscles, nerves, vascular tissue, and fascia creating more mobility and improved function of these tissues.

Cupping can benefit you by:

  • Decreasing inflammation
  • Decreasing muscle spasms
  • Decreasing pain
  • Improving blood and oxygen circulation
  • Improving range of motion
  • Loosening of scars or tissue adhesions

Your therapist may recommend you receive cupping therapy once or twice a week with other interventions based on your diagnosis, overall goals, and the individualized treatment plan created.
